Should Brandy Return to the Music Scene?

Ok mike check…mike check! I need all the Brandy fans to stand up, and when I say Brandy fans, I mean the real fans that remember songs like ‘I wanna be down’ or ‘Top of the world’ or ‘Have you ever’. The old school Brandy that when you put on her music, from the very first beat you knew what song was on. I’m talking about the Brandy that was the star of the hit television show Moesha and still found time to make hit records. Old school Brandy made you feel good. Her music was hypnotic. She was every where, from television to the walls of pre teen boys and girls alike. She was relatable. I can’t lie I had my Brandy posters up on my wall back in the day. Every girl wanted to rock the box braids that she basically made famous. Brandy is an artist that at one point sort of lost some of her fans, because though her fans grew up, Brandy sort of grew up too fast for us. But you could always turn to her older joints and feel right at home. Even now in 2011 I’m willing to bet that if any DJ puts on ‘Almost Doesn’t Count’ the entire crowd would sing along word for word. And that song is about 13 years old.

I’m sure you’re wondering what the purpose of this post is. Well, recently Brandy’s brother Ray-J celebrated his birthday and in order to honor her lovely brother she decides to sing Happy Birthday to him. My 21st birthday is on Saturday (the 12th) I wish she would sing happy birthday to me. But that’s neither here nor there, moving on! When she started to sing, I got so excited because it has been such a long time since her true voice has been out there. Listening to her I felt like I wanted to go to a Brandy concert. It’s all over YouTube, and I have watched about six or seven times already. And every time I do, I like to close my eyes because you get the true essence of her voice when you just listen.

It has become clear that at the moment she is focusing on her reality show, and of course still sort of riding the coat tails of her ‘Dancing with the Stars’ time. So it is understandable that an album may not be first on her list.

But I need her to get back out there musically. She tried to put out some projects a few years ago and they weren’t bad, but I think most of her fans felt like she fell short of the Brandy they remembered. But her voice is just completely undeniable. There is no other voice like Brandy’s and when she started to sing for her brother I was like (YYYEEESSS!!! honey) she just sounded so good. I think any true Brandy fan would appreciate her sultry raspy voice.

I can’t even lie; she did her thing, singing happy birthday, nostalgic moment! Touché Brandy!
