Ok, to start off let me say congrats to all the winners of the night. But let’s talk about this show called the GRAMMYs. First of all I was slightly upset about how the show was opened. I know we all love the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin and I can appreciate how they pulled 5 women from all genres to honor her, but I feel like that should not have been the show opener. It was a rather awkward way of opening a show.
Lady GaGa’s performance was of course over the top, and very much her plus the usual awesome dancers. (I got to give it to her, she puts on a performance) As crazy as she may look, she is a true performer. She has the voice and the presence and the girl is a true musician. She performed her new song for the first time, (new club hit?!?!) I can get with her performances, because she takes time to showcase her voice, even in the midst of all the craziness that may be going on the stage.
We know the Grammy covers all genres of music, therefore we all have to listen and watch performances from artist we may not know, and songs we’ve never heard before. That’s how I felt watching Miranda Lambert. And don’t let the music fool ya’ll, country music artist, make money. Miranda Lambert’s song was nominated twice for song of the year. (Home girl MUST be doing something right)
Muse had a pretty good performance, I was grooving in my room watching them. I think this is a sign that we all need to be checking out talent coming out of the UK. Like in real life ya’ll, I’m not into “rock music” like that but visually I was definitely feeling Muse’s performance. Big ups to them!
So the performance I waited for was B.o.B Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae. THEY KILLED IT!!! Like that’s all that can be said. B.o.B opened with beautiful girls with the violins in the back, man, just pure fire on that stage. Janelle Monae is just so dope in her own way. The performance was simple but it was done RIGHT! And to make it even greater everybody on that stage sounded EFFIN AMAZING. A full band in the background (take note youngens trying to get in the business…that is how you do it.) That is talent at its best. Bruno Mars just did something to my heart when he got to singing. Then Janelle Monae just came and SHUT IT DOWN. Just shut it down. I love her as an artist.
Usher and Justin Bieber…um yeah, they took us down memory lane of how they met and how Justin’s career went KABOOM!!! Beiber showed off his guitar playing skills (props to him) Surprise of the night JADEN SMITH performs with the Bieds. And I know ya’ll saw the proud parents Will and Jada in the crowd all excited and what not. The performance was fly; I can’t even lie about it. I was Bieber fan for a whole 2 second watching the two because both of them killed that dance sequence at the end of that performance. You can definitely tell Justin is Usher’s protégé. Two thumbs up!
Rihanna and Drake, no question, I know they we’re going to kill it! I’m a huge Rihanna fan, so pretty much everything she does I absolutely love. And Drake always puts it down on the stage. I love the two together musically! And those two on stage together was music heaven for me.
The 2011 Grammys weren’t super exciting as had expected. But I was super pleased with the performance from every genre of music. I think everyone came with their best and it showed on stage. The visuals were on point, pretty much everyone had their vocals together, especially Ms. Christina Aguilera, she needed this come back after her disaster last week. It wasn’t the best Grammys I’ve seen but still entertaining none the less.
