The Awakening – An evening of lyrical verse in a sophisticated style aptly named. I had the chance to attend an Album release party for Reggie Eldridge, an up & coming virtuoso of spoken word. It was to my delight that my guests and I were also treated to performances by amazingly talented artists with a heady mix ranging from inspired poets to the gritty vibes of acoustic guitar. The event was held at the new galleria building on the University of South Florida campus. Soaring ceilings in an atrium of glass walls, dripping lanterns of light that reflected against crystal clear bowls with sparkling floating candles lent to the ambiance of this jazzy, classy evening.
The room was filled with devout fans and no doubt new ones. Drinks were flowing and patrons were dressed to impress. Each artist contributed a unique rendition of spoken word, culminating in Reggie’s’ outstanding presentation that both perplexed and moved you like music to your soul. Slight, unassuming, fresh faced, one wonders how someone so young could have such depth. Like an old soul filled with wisdom. The night was rhythmic, the words, music and song flowing, building, ebbing to a smooth finish, like the sweet, satiny taste of a fine sherry. An evening well spent.
