Bridalplasty’ Opens Door To Controversy

When I first heard someone mention the new show ‘Bridalplasty,’ my first thought was “You’re kidding.” Unfortunately, they weren’t kidding. This is a real show about brides competing for plastic surgeries before their weddings, and the grand prize is a dream wedding. A dream wedding is a pretty good prize. Plastic surgeries, however? Not so much. First off, if you watched the episode you know how beautiful these women already are. If you haven’t seen the first episode which aired November 28, check out E!’s website. They feature small bios of all the future brides, along with lengthy plastic surgery lists. These are like messed up wish lists for Santa (‘tis the season, right?).

Upon looking at these women, I came to a realization: they are all absolutely gorgeous. Why on earth would they think they need THAT much plastic surgery to look good on their wedding day? This can lead to a series of repercussions not only for these women, but for the viewing public as well. First, why would you want to watch someone get plastic surgery every week? Obviously there are people that do or else the show wouldn’t exist, which says something about where we are as a society. Second, what kind of example is this setting for younger teenagers growing up and seeing plastic surgery on TV? Let’s not forget the fact that these are really good-looking women. If these beautiful women see all of these supposed imperfections that need fixed, what will that make young girls think of themselves? Watching last week’s episode lowered even my self-esteem a little.

This is probably the most shallow reality TV show in existence. E! said in a statement that “Every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day but for the women competing on E!’s new series, ‘Bridalplasty,’ only perfection will do.” Do these women want to look ANYTHING like themselves on their wedding day? Because it definitely doesn’t seem that way.
