If you really want to eat on the cheap, but not spend days in bed or in bathroom, then go to a couple of local favorites. Sprat Net might seem like an odd name for a eating joint, but who cares, they have some great tasting Kittitian food that will not cost you an arm or leg. They serve Snapper, lobster, burgers and pizza. I haven’t eaten the pizza, but the burgers are tasty and the price is right. When you can get a meal for two under $6.00, that’s what I call a deal. The food tastes fresh because it’s cooked with real fire. Most meals come with a good sized proportion of sides like baked bread, potato and a vegetable. The restaurant is located on the water so, it has a pleasing atmosphere and the people are extremely nice. They were nicer here than at the ritzier restaurants– where they should be ecstatic after stealing my $50 for a plate of salad.
If you don’t mind a real down to earth local joint, with picnic table style seating then the Rainbow Beach Bar and Grill is the place to go. It’s one of the many strip bars—no, there are no strippers here, sorry, it’s one of the many bars on the strip. My friend eat the burger and onion rings and said the burger was even better than all the other places we had eaten at. The price range is around $8 to $15. It’s got a very pleasant, homey feel and the food tastes quite the same. They have oldies night and a soca music night. I like this joint.
Another fresh seafood restaurant where you can get a whole lot for under $15 is Turtle Beach Bar and Grill. It’s got a great bar which serves their famous mango colada. The people are friendly and the food has some rich flavors. They are well known for their drinks and I agree the drinks are good, But I can pretty much handle only one so I can’t vouch for the rest of their drink. But if it’s anything like the” oh so good” Mango colada, you’ve come to the right place. When seated at the picnic table under the palms, give a warm welcome to—here he comes– Wilbur the pig and the other overly friendly residents –a monkey named Tarzana. You’ve gotta love the island life.
Like I suggested in my previous articles. I frequent grocery stores when on vacation. You might want to stop at the grocery stores and pick up some Kittitian snacks, its sometimes better than blowing all your money on the hotel food . If you don’t have it in you to pull some stranger aside and inquire; have a print out of all the restaurants you would like to eat at from reservations required to fast food joints, so you don’t spend a fortune roaming or searching for a hotspot with your droid.
