If you ever visit Orlando and your in the mood to eat somewhere eclectic with a twist, then be sure to dine at the “Funky Monkey Wine Company” The name alone promises a unique dining experience.
Nestled in the heart of Pointe Orlando off the famed international drive, this restaurant delivers a stylish funky atmosphere of plush jazzy velvet chairs, eye catching paintings, seductive lighting with a twist of sophistication of its Extensive wine list from around the world paired with an equally distinctive menu of chef designed sushi, and unconventional medleys of seafood, lamb, steak and duck.
My friends and I were first treated to a sampling of several wines served by attentive staff that was connoisseurs of wine and it’s appropriate pairing with certain meals. We ended up designing our own wine blend and believe me it hit the spot. You are also offered a bowl of delicious citrus-laced edamame before your meal, as a way to cleanse the palate. Brilliant!
Then appetizers-~
- Fried Goat cheese encased with a Crunchy panko almond crusted nutty breading. Served with sundried tomato jam and tomato salsa. Light, pungent and robust at the same time.
- Pan Roasted Mussels ~steamed open with white wine, garlic, fresh ginger, fresh tomato, key lime, served with triangles of bread to sop up the juices.
- Mini Monkey Purses ~ cream cheese, real crab stuffed wontons and a sweet Asian chili dipping sauce, sweet, creamy, crisp harmony in your mouth.
- Main entrees-
- Perfectly grilled rack of Lamb dusted with grain mustard, then panko herb crusted, served with mashed potatoes, and seasonal vegetables. The meat was cooked to perfection, flavorful and mouth-watering.
- Roasted half Duck ~ pan roasted, tantalizing orange sauce, served with a goat cheese mashed potatoes and vegetables. Piquant and fall off the bone tender. Delicious
- A rubbed Blackened Sockeye Salmon ~succulent, flaky served with toasted corn salsa, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, a masterpiece.
We were too stuffed to eat dessert, and perhaps a just bit tipsy, but I will make that my first priority upon my return.
